6 Tips for Digestive Health

by Susie Bruhin on Mar 06, 2024
woman happy with digestive health

An angry stomach is no fun for anyone. Digestive symptoms like an upset stomach, diarrhea, constipation, gas, heartburn and nausea can put a real damper on your day. We all experience this from time to time, but repeated digestive concerns can heavily impact your daily life. The good news is there are a handful of ways to naturally improve your digestive health and receive some relief! Here are 6 tips for digestive health:

1. Consume Whole Foods

You are what you eat! Well, not entirely, but what we consume does influence how we feel. Eat whole foods that are packed with nutrients, vitamins and minerals. Add vegetables, healthy fats and fruits to your diet, using them to replace processed foods. Processed foods are typical in today’s day and age, but these foods are often high in refined carbohydrates, saturated fats, food additives and sugar.

2. Eat a High-Fiber Diet

high fiber foods

Fiber has digestive super powers! Eating a diet rich in fiber can work wonders for your digestive health. Soluble fiber absorbs water and adds bulk to your stool. Insoluble fiber is responsible for helping your digestive tract move things along smoothly. Berries, avocados, whole grains, nuts and many vegetables are good sources of fiber.

3. Keep Hydrated

Drinking plenty of water is one of the best tips for digestive health! Dehydration is one of the most common causes of constipation. Drinking water during or after a meal helps your body break down and process the food you’ve just consumed. The National Academy of Medicine recommends 13 cups of water a day for men and 9 cups for women.

4. Try Probiotics

probiotics

Many people suffering from digestive issues turn to probiotics for help. Probiotics are the “good” or healthy gut bacteria that are required for proper digestion. Probiotics aid in digestion by breaking down the indigestible fibers that can cause gas and bloating. Studies have shown probiotics can provide relief from symptoms like bloating, gas and pain in those with irritable bowel syndrome.

5. Kick the Habit

Over time, we all develop unhealthy habits. Some of these habits can contribute to digestive problems. Smoking can often lead to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and quitting smoking can improve symptoms of acid reflux. Alcohol ramps up the production of acid in the stomach, which can lead to heartburn, ulcers and acid reflux. Heavy consumption of alcohol is associated with inflammatory bowel diseases, increased gut permeability and harmful changes in gut bacteria. Late-night eating is another habit people often develop that can cause problems with digestion.

6. Give GastroGuard a Try

Gastro Guard

Allow GastroGuard to be your natural ally! This dietary supplement offers natural support in helping to alleviate the gastrointestinal side effects of patients who are using a GLP-1 like Ozempic (semaglutide). GI effects can be common among those who are using a GLP-1 for weight loss or diabetes. GastroGuard supports alleviating these common side effects to help you feel at the top of your game!
